Learning dependence, still

"Watch for any situation in which you feel that God wants you to join him." Such was John Wimber's quip to a group of pastor's eagerly waiting to learn the secret for how he operates in spiritual gifts.
I spent the morning reading Naturally Supernatural, a book everyone at church has been reading for our 40 days of faith. While reading, I felt God challenging me to take more risks in ministry. Specifically, I felt like I was to set aside the agenda I had for the day's students appointments and begin instead with listening prayer. What Lord, do you have for us today?
Getting up the nerves to finally do that, I drove to campus eager, nervous, and totally unaware of the surprises that were waiting for me. On the way, I got a call from one of my students - she wasn't able to meet today! I was practically on campus already so I decided to spend my time there anyway. I'd get some work done while waiting for my 2nd student appointment.
When I walked into the campus coffee shop, I bumped into *Amy. A friend brought her to IV last year. She was really open to spiritual things and we had a couple of significant conversations, but she hasn't been around IV at all this year. There have been a few instances this semester when Amy & and I have "randomly" bumped into each other. Today ended up be another one of those!
I asked Amy how she was doing (more out of politeness than anything) and she said the day was going terribly. What started off as an answer to a polite question ended up being a serious conversation about faith and what God might be doing in Amy's life right now. "You know," she said, "I keep bumping into you and I wonder if God might keep bringing you into my life." Hmmmm.... :)
We talked for three hours and during our conversation, I was able to explain the Gospel to her and ask if she was ready to say "yes" to a relationship with Jesus. Quiet for a moment, she said she didn't feel ready for that but really wanted to begin actively seeking him. Over the next four weeks, Amy and I will be getting together to study Jesus' life. Please pray that God would communicate his presence strongly to Amy - that she would grow in both her understanding and experience of Him. Pray that in four weeks, Amy would be closer to saying Yes!
