Busy Greeks

It's homecoming weekend at the University of Cincinnati. This means a big game on Saturday with a parade and the crowning of a homecoming queen & king. It also means sorority and fraternity members have been busy all week building floats. This follows the previous three weeks of heavy recruitment activities.

One thing I've quickly learned about students in the Greek community is that they are incredibly busy. They hold leadership positions in their chapter, work in co-up, are involved in IM sports, and they still go to class. With schedules being so full, I have been impressed with students' responsiveness to the start of a new organization targeted at Greeks. I haven't heard one student say, "I already have too much going on." Rather, they've greeted the news of Greek InterVarsity with welcome excitement. My staff partner and I even bought a facebook ad targeting UC Greeks as an experiment to see if it'd help connect us with more students. To our surprise, it did! A student saw the ad, clicked the link & "liked us". Michelle followed up with a message and that student showed up at bible study the next night!

The welcome reception to Greek InterVarsity tells me one thing: these students are hungry for something more. These students want spiritual investment, it just hasn't been easy to find on campus in the midst of their busy schedules. I am so grateful for InterVarsity's strategic ministries, like Greek IV, because it is reaching students who might otherwise be overlooked.

Next week, Greek InterVarsity is hosting a gathering event for students to hear more about the start of this new ministry. A couple students will be sharing their testimonies and MIchelle will be giving a vision talk about the importance of connecting faith to everyday life. We'll be working hard to invite as many students as we can. Please pray that students who are already getting involved will bring their friends and that many we haven't met before will come!
