UC hired a new provost five months ago. MIchael (Area Director) and I had the opportunity to meet him over lunch last week. Dr. Ono was very friendly and as we walked from his office to lunch, he immediately let us know of his support for InterVarsity.
Over lunch, I was struck by Dr. Ono's extravagant generosity. When we mentioned not being able to reserve a room on campus because we weren't an official group yet, Dr. Ono offered space in his building. When we talked about UC's football team (neither my alma mater, nor Emory, where Dr. Ono had just come from, are known for their sports!), Dr. Ono asked if we had gone to a game yet (no, we hadn't) and if we'd like to (yes, we would) because he gets tickets from time to time. When we shared about the churches we attend, Dr. Ono suggested we get our families together for dim sum after church sometime. (note: for those unfamiliar with dim sum, it is the Chinese version of Spanish tapas)
As the provost of a university with 41,000 students, Dr. Ono's time is tightly scheduled and his days usually packed with meetings. As a faculty member in the college of medicine and the college of arts & sciences, Dr. Ono teaches multiple courses and meets with students. Yet he generously offered his help and resources to us.
Please pray for the start of this new relationship and for Dr. Ono. As a high profile member of the university, Dr. Ono holds a lot of leadership responsibilities. Pray for God's light to shine through Dr. Ono's character and leadership. Pray for him to have strength, courage, and wisdom to lead the university well. Pray for his family and their transition to Cincinnati.
