One Week In

Alex, Steve and I are the planting team for InterVarsity's undergrad ministry at UC.  Our hope is to build a multi-ethnic ministry on this increasingly diverse campus.  We started off the year with freshmen move-in.  Armed with hundreds of fruitsnacks and a smile, we greeted hundreds of students as they pushed carts and dolleys across the walkway.

By the second day, we handed out over 600 fliers and countless more fruitsnacks (they were so popular, we saw some repeat "customers").  We had conversations with several interested students as well.  A freshman from San Francisco came up to us exclaiming, "I'm so glad you guys are here!"  She knew of InterVarsity through her church and youth group connections.  Apparently, she tried looking up InterVarsity on UC's website, but as a new ministry, we're not on the official books yet.  "When I saw your sign, I thought the website must have lied to me!" the student continued on in her enthusiasm.  With eight dorms and thousands of students moving in at once, we marveled at this chance encounter.

Be praying for more of these "chance encounters"!
