Listening to God's Voice

Meet Jordan. He saw a sign that read "looking for Christian men" at an InterVarsity table and stopped by.  "I don't usually go this way," he said, when he met Alex, the staffworker.  "But today, I felt like God was nudging me in this direction and then I saw your sign."  Jordan has since joined an InterVarsity small group where we study scripture together and talk about it's application for our lives.  A couple weeks ago, we looked at Jesus' teaching about the lamp on stand.  Lamps aren't meant to be put under a bowl or bed (that would be ridiculous!) - they're meant to be placed on a stand where they can shine and give light for all to see.  From that passage, we talked about when it looks like to be like that lamp - letting light shine generously, undiscriminately, upon those around us.

One Week In

Alex, Steve and I are the planting team for InterVarsity's undergrad ministry at UC.  Our hope is to build a multi-ethnic ministry on this increasingly diverse campus.  We started off the year with freshmen move-in.  Armed with hundreds of fruitsnacks and a smile, we greeted hundreds of students as they pushed carts and dolleys across the walkway.

By the second day, we handed out over 600 fliers and countless more fruitsnacks (they were so popular, we saw some repeat "customers").  We had conversations with several interested students as well.  A freshman from San Francisco came up to us exclaiming, "I'm so glad you guys are here!"  She knew of InterVarsity through her church and youth group connections.  Apparently, she tried looking up InterVarsity on UC's website, but as a new ministry, we're not on the official books yet.  "When I saw your sign, I thought the website must have lied to me!" the student continued on in her enthusiasm.  With eight dorms and thousands of students moving in at once, we marveled at this chance encounter.

Be praying for more of these "chance encounters"!

Year 2: Greek IV

Last year, we started planting a ministry specifically for sorority and fraternity students on campus.  We had a great response, ending the year with 50+ students involved in one of our bible studies.  So far this year, we've begun to solidify a core team - Greek students who are committed to their Christian faith and have a desire to reach their brothers and sisters.

39 Days

of Prayer.  Ok... it's supposed to be 40, but I'm a day late in getting this posted!

The Great Lakes East Region has put together a 40 day prayer guide focusing on the book of Hebrews.  The focus is on intimacy with Christ and His unique supremacy over all things.

I invite you to "Enter In" and pray with us!  An electronic version of the guide can be found here and printed off for your personal use.

Let me know what you hear from God in prayer!

The World Gathers

Imagine...

650 Christian leaders from 150 countries gathering to celebrate what God is doing on campuses around the WORLD.

What would that be like?

Did you know...

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA is only ONE of MANY indigenous student movements across the globe?

It's true.

We are ONE of MANY members in the IFES (International Federation of Evangelical Students)

IFES is represented by 154 countries around the world.

InterVarsity is one of them.

All across the globe, we are seeing students reaching students with the Gospel!

What students said...

Before the school year ended, we asked students how they benefitted from Greek InterVarsity's ministry this past year. This is what they said:

I have grown spiritually in a relationship with my (sorority) sister(s). Having a spiritual bond with them makes me more excited about strengthening my relationship with God. I know if it were not for Greek IV my sisters and I may never have come together to help one another in our walks with the Lord.

I have been able to comfortably talk about my faith and Greek IV is what made that possible. I have also been able to grow closer to my sisters (and even got a roommate) through our discussions

Greek IV has gotten me back growing in my faith. It recommitted my passion for Him and gave me the confidence to bring my faith more out in the open with my friends by starting a fraternity Bible study.

I love hearing these stories of God's work in people's lives! It is a tangible reminder that God is fully present and desires to actively engage with us.
